Updated projections show 16 of 18 policymakers expect at least one more 25bp hike before the end of 2026, with the median 2026 year-end rate projection moving to 4.1% from 3.8% in June. The 10-year Treasury yield touched 5.04% on September 15, its highest since 2007, and closed above 5% the day of the decision.

Nifty 50 opened at 23,195.25 on September 17, 2026, down 22.35 points from the previous close of 23,217.60. By late morning the index had recovered to 23,274.15, up 56.55 points on the day. Sensex opened at 74,182.62, down 153.83 points, before a similar recovery.
