Artha — 3 August 2026 Morning, One Story
A Gap Is the Cheapest Thing the Market Makes
The market opened at 24,572.70 this morning. On Friday it closed at
24,383.60. That is 189 points, given away overnight, before anyone here
had bought or sold a single share.
VIX is near 11.7. Nobody is paying for protection. This is not a
frightened market.
Now the useful part, and it comes from the record, not from an opinion.
Since 2015, 106 weeks have opened with a gap this big. Sixty-six out of
a hundred of those weeks ended higher than the week before. In a normal
week it is fifty-five.
So the gap is worth something. About eleven points in a hundred. Real,
but small. Most people lose money in the space between "this works" and
"this works enough to bet big on."
Because a gap is the cheapest thing the market makes. It is written
overnight by people who are asleep by the time we open. It can be taken
back by eleven o'clock and nobody is answerable for it.
Which leaves the one line worth keeping.
It is not a day. It is a week.
A day is a conversation. A week is a decision. Monday's open is what the
market said before it had to mean it. Friday's close is the signature at
the bottom of the page. Everything in between is argument.
Four days are still left on this one.
So watch the close. Not the number on your screen now — the one at 3:30
on Friday. That is the only one that gets written down.
This is commentary only. Nothing here is a buy/sell call or a
recommendation — no derivatives, no positions suggested. For any personal
investment decision, please consult a SEBI-registered adviser.
